The Astrology of February
It’s been a bit of a rough start to the new year for a lot of us.
The eclipses of January were intense and demanding, like a ride through Willy Wonka’s psychedelic tunnel. If you’re feeling raw and and worn out, you’re not alone. A two-year cycle has just closed and we’re all still integrating the heavy lessons we’ve learned.
You’ve leveled up in one area of life since early 2017. It was a rigorous process that required that you let go of some cherished aspects of self to open your heart and awaken to a more authentic way of being.
But relief is on the way.
In February, we get a fresh start, and a glimpse of what this new incarnation actually looks like. Our intentions begin to evolve in exciting ways. We get some good news for a change.
There’s a clarity of purpose and a sense of empowerment driving us. We begin to see the outline of possibility. The dream begins to manifest on the ground. We give it just enough gas to accelerate our vision into the physical realm.
The first week of February starts with a bang as Mars in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn on Friday, Feb. 1, powering our ambition and if we’re not careful, driving us into power struggles. Venus shifts into Capricorn on Sunday, Feb. 3 which brings relationships down to earth and engages us purposefully in our money-making endeavors.
On Monday, Feb. 4, we welcome a lovely and enlivening 15° Aquarius New Moon that conjuncts Mercury in Aquarius and sextiles Jupiter in Sagittarius, inviting happy accidents and serendipitous exchanges. We’re granted reprieve from all the intensity of the last month and invited to celebrate a renewed sense of faith. Creative — even genius — ideas generate opportunities out of the blue.
This is an ideal time to work through difficult problems as we’re given the objectivity and clarity of mind we need to see solutions. Aquarius and Sagittarius both celebrate honesty, freedom and authenticity. Send that proposal! Plant the seeds of something risky and big. Welcome a breakthrough! Your future seems more optimistic than ever.
But wait! There’s more.
On Feb. 7, the cosmos dares you to be yourself, to risk being seen as different, to share your genius and stand up for what’s right as Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Mars in Aries. Our intellect is fired up and ready to experiment. The universe meets us half-way, bringing opportunities for innovation.
After all that excitement, the pace of life slows mid-month as Mercury shifts into dreamy Pisces on Feb. 10 and we lose a bit of our hyper-drive and focus. But the result is stabilizing, not stagnating. Be mindful on Feb. 13. Mars conjuncts Uranus in the fiery and impulsive sign of Aries, a tricky aspect that can bring accidents and volatility. Avoid important meetings or risky ventures on this day. Don’t run red lights. Wear your seatbelt and don’t pick fights.
Valentine’s Day this year could result in more sensible gifts as the relationship planets Mars and Venus will be transiting earth signs, Taurus and Capricorn, respectively. This could signal a time when we feel more sated than usual after so much ambitious striving. It’s a good weekend to enjoy quiet moments by the fire to count your blessings. Home cooked meals and Netflix with your loved ones may feel more satisfying than a five-star dinner out on Valentine’s Day.
The third week of the month — especially around the Feb. 19 0° Virgo Full Moon — is a mixed bag with Mercury and Neptune bringing illusions and fantasies into focus, stirring up some confusion in the process. On the one hand, we may strive to stabilize our relationships and communicate in a more thoughtful and sensitive way. But emotions are volatile and expectations are especially high. If we can stay objective, our efforts to find practical solutions to thorny problems can produce clean-up and clarity, bringing resolution.
As the month closes, we could be congratulating ourselves on bringing our vision into reality in some ingenious ways. Transformative and creative energies abound. The challenge will be narrowing our focus enough to take advantage of them.
